Gary Brent brings over 35 years of experience in the Financial Services Sector.
As Chairman, Chief Strategist, and Co-Founder of HighView Financial Group, he is actively engaged in four key areas of the firm:
- The architecture of portfolio solutions for clients of the firm;
- The design of best counselling practices;
- Counselling key clients of the firm and
- Chairman of the Board of Directors
His extensive experience in the financial services sector, particularly within the asset management sector, equips him to serve the strategic needs of HighView Financial Group and its clients, especially as pertains to business strategy, business governance, and the design of asset management programs.
Prior to co-founding HighView Financial Group, Gary was Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of RBC Global Private Banking, which included all the groups servicing the discretionary needs of RBC’s global high net worth client base. This included the Domestic Private Bank, the International Private Bank, Royal Trust, and RBC Private Counsel. He also held the position of President and CEO of RBC Private Counsel.
Before joining RBC, he held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of CT Investment Management Group, since its inception until Canada Trust’s sale to TD Financial Group in 2000. CT Investment Management Group was the wealth management division of Canada Trust and included the mutual fund group, the trust business, the investment counsel business, and the investment management area. Canada Trust was one of the first investment management groups to embrace the concept of open architecture to bring a broader set of global and specialty investment solutions to all segments of its client base, from affluent Canadians through its mutual fund business, to Trust clients and high net worth Canadians through the Trust Company and Private Investment Counsel.
Gary developed his investment counseling skills during his years with TAL Private Management, the private client division of TAL Global Asset Management. As a founding partner of TAL Private Management, he was managing partner of the Toronto office, investment counselor, and Vice-Chairman, as well as CEO. Gary moved to Canada Trust when TAL was sold to CIBC.
Gary and his wife, Deborah, have four children and six granddaughters. They make their home in Burlington, Ontario.
