John Platt is an innovative financial services
executive with over 20 years of operational and
strategic planning experience wholly focused on
the management of private client assets. As an
account executive and partner with two trust
companies, he has managed clients directly. He
then was one of the pioneers in the development
and production of mutual fund research and
subsequently managed teams responsible for
supporting Investment Advisors with quality
investment ideas, products and order execution.
Prior to joining HighView, John was a member of
the senior management team at a national full
service brokerage firm. Supporting the firm’s
Investment Advisors, his operational
responsibilities included Private Client
Research, Retail Syndication and both Equity and
Fixed Income trading. He was also a senior member
of the strategy teams that set direction for the
Private Client Division as well as other
initiatives within the broader financial group.
Prior to assuming his management
responsibilities, John spent ten years as a
mutual fund specialist. Both individually and as
a part of research teams, John developed and
monitored both approved and recommended lists of
mutual funds. He was a co-author of Smart Funds,
the Financial Post’s annual guide on mutual funds
in 1995 and 1996.
John chaired the Investment Dealers Association’s
(IDA’s) subcommittee on Mutual Funds from 1994 to
1996. He then served as a board member of the
Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA) from 1998
until 2002. In addition, John was a board member
of the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education
(CFEE) from 2002 until 2007.
John has a BA in Economics and Political Science
at the University of Toronto, a CPA from
Dalhousie University and did his graduate studies
at McMaster University in their Faculty of
Business Administration.
